Also, I know a half-dozen or so instructors are planning to come. I'm not sure who they are, though several of George's NYT colleagues are expected.

Santa Fe Reunion in San Francisco

When: Sunday, February 18; 7:15 pm until .....

Where: Gordon Biersch, 2 Harrison Street, San Francisco (415) 243-8246

What: Hearth oven pizzas, assorted skewers, and more. Cash bar featuring great beer

How much: $20 payable at sciwrite.org/sciwrite/sciwrite.googlepay.html

How: By foot, cab (about $6), or public transit ($1.50)

By foot Walking from the conference center takes about 30 minutes. The last third is along waterfront. If you time it right, you can watch the Bay Bridge light up.

Head east on O'Farrell until you hit Market St. Take a slight left to head up Market St until you come to the Ferry Building. Take a right and walk with the water on your left until you come to 2 Harrison Street.

By public transit Head east on O'Farrell. Take a right on Powell Street. Pass by the cable cars into the BART/ Muni station. To get the requisite $1.50 in coins, you can change crisp dollar bills at the BART ticket machines. Head into the Muni part of the station.

Option 1: a pleasant walk Take any inbound train two stops to Embarcadero. Walk east to the Ferry Building. Walk with the water on your left until you come to 2 Harrison Street, about 4 long blocks.

Option 2: a longer train ride Take the N line inbound to Folsom and Embarcadero, the first stop aboveground.
