As the environment editor for the Los Angeles Times, Frank Clifford presided over the writing and reporting of the paper's Pulitizer Prize-winning series on the ocean. Before becoming an editor he earned a national reputation as an environmental reporter. His recent work includes an article for Smithsonian magazine about wolf recovery in Yellowstone National Park and a chapter for a new National Geographic book, Written in Water. He is the author of The Backbone of the World: A Portrait of the Vanishing West Along the Continental Divide.
